One important thing to remember, when finding your jazz tone, is how your picking position affects the tone of the plucked note or notes. The closer your picking attack is to the neck or neck pickup, the warmer and the rounded the tone will ring and vice versa; the closer the picking attack is to the bridge or bridge pickup, the brighter and twangier the note will sound.
