Painting is the art of using a pigmented medium to create a picture of reality filtered through the imagination, the senses, emotions, and life experience. Artists the world over have multiplied the uses of painting as a vital mode of human expression, whether recording history, retelling myth and legend, expressing religious fervor, or exploring the unknown. From early history to the present, we have records of men and women making graphic representations of their world, showing their understanding and their curiosity. Acrylic painting has come on the scene in the last 50 years as a popular medium for artists who like to work quickly and prefer not to wait the long periods of time it takes oil paint to dry. Although not a replacement for oil paints, acrylic paints have also proved to be immune to yellowing and cracking over time.
In this free acrylic painting tutorial, learn the basics of how to paint, with acrylic painting tips and techniques for beginners, including painting instructions and an acrylic painting demonstration. Expert painter David A. Clemen demonstrates how to use various art supplies and tools, like brushes and pallet knives, and offers tips on applying paint and planning the compositional elements of your piece. After watching these free painting video lessons, you'll have the technical knowledge you need to put your creative vision on canvas.
"Hi, I'm David Clemen here on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to paint with acrylics the female figure. Before we start painting we have to have a few supplies. I've got a 9x12 pre-stretched and pre -gesso canvas that you get at any local art store. I've got a few basics acrylics here. I've relatively small brushes that I'm going to use since it's a small canvas. That is really all the supplies we're going to need. I also have a dipping container here to add water or wash out my brushes and I have a pallet here which you can see has been used for previous paintings. "
