How to Draw Hands

"Hi, I'm David Clemen on behalf of Expert Village. Today we're going to learn how to draw characters. Okay, now that we've drawn Mr. Bighead with the big 'fro, we can focus on different parts of the body. We can do the hands. And I'm sure you've seen most characters or cartoons have three fingers or four fingers. And the hands are really important, because the hands say a lot: thumbs up, thumbs down, I want to fight; this that and the other. So you can do this with your character hands. First, I'm going to just draw really fat fingers with four, like that. If you want to do five, you can kind of just do it all in one line, if you want. Or you can come in, pick up the finger there like he's reaching for something. And then, when the hand comes back in, you want the hand to come to the wrist, which is really small. You can have somebody that's like extra cool, and he's like "yeah," so he's putting his fingers down, like this. Okay, like "okay," like that. So these are different examples of hands that you can do. And you can add in. You know, they don't all have to have five fingers because it's a character; it's not necessarily real. And you can do a woman hand, which is a lot more simple and dainty. She's got really long, thin fingers with fingernails and like that. You know, you just want to kind of indicate the hand. And make it really long; females have the longer, prettier, more graceful hands, so you can do that like that as well. And these are examples of hands."
