" Hi! I’m David Kaynor for expertvillage.com. I’m going to talk about playing basic notes on the fiddle, and to do that I thought I would demonstrate an exercise that I learned from one of my friend’s in Dalarne, Sweden about 20 years ago. It involves using the G-scale, just the basic major scale starting with an open G-string, and all I do is play up five notes of the scale and down, and those are first five notes of the G-scale. Then I play the first third and fifth of that sequence…and to break that up a little bit I’ll be playing a G, a B and a D and a B again twice. Then I’ll be start using the same scale, but start one note higher than before so instead of starting with the open G, I’d start with the A and I’ll go up five notes…now those five notes all of these are in the same G-scale. I would then arpegiate that sequence, which is to play the first, third and fifth tones of that sequence, A C E C alright then start one note higher in the sequence with a B and go up five G-scale notes starting with B, then I arpegiate that first, third and fifth and start on the next note up and I arpegiate that and then the next note… "
