Hi! We're cartooning today and we've drawn characters, prop, clothing, background, everything we need. If we want to move the story along, the way that we can show how the story is going to continue is with dialogue. That's how it's mostly drawn in cartoons and in comics is with what we call a word balloon or a speech bubble. Whatever you want to call it. This guy is going to have an open mouth. He's got something to say and it's something that's very important. Hi! He's saying hello. If this same character is not talking out loud or he's rather thinking, we're going to do a thought bubble or thought balloon. That I do like a cloud and a I draw a little top thing. Like we did with the pointy little thing showing pointing to his mouth, we're going to draw little bubbles trailing up to his brain. He's kind of got a look on his face like I don't know. Do I want soup today? We could write that out. Let's go back with props and draw a picture of a lovely can of grade A made in America 100% soup. That guy is thinking about the soup. When we're talking about word bubbles and if it's something coming from an electronic unnatural source, what I like to draw is your basic word balloon, but a jagged pointer showing that this is coming form the radio. It's an announcer saying act now, there's a special contest going on for the first 5 callers. You want to be the first 5 callers. Basically, that's how I draw word balloons.
