"In this clip, we'll be working on the eyelashes. With women, this deserves a whole section by itself. With most people, in particular, with any other character. If they're not a female character, then you don't even bother with lashes. The eyelashes in my opinion for cartoon characters are signature of women. Unless you're trying to make the character look either innocent. I'm trying to think of any other emotion that might be. Most of the time, it'll just be a women thing. Unless you're trying to make a male character look effeminate. What we'll do here is we'll go back to our test page. We're going to work on eyes. What you're going to want to do is you're going to want to hold the pen very lightly and the tip is going to brush very lightly against the page. You don?t want the lines to be as thick as these ones were. You don't want to give the eyelashes a ton of definition. If you were to do that, your lashes would look like this. What that does is it calls a lot of attention to the eyelashes and we don't necessarily want to do that. Unless of course, the image of the drawing is supposed to be about the character's eyelashes. In that case, you would give it definition. In this case, we're going to stick with a really soft subtle look. What you want to do when you're drawing these is again, you want to hold the pen very lightly as you do the brushes. As far as the starting point is concerned, you look at the eyelids here. You see where they end on the sides of the eye. Then you start the top lash right there, right in line, with the lids. You go like that and that looks about right as far as where the lashes are supposed to line up. Going back up to our main drawing. Just take the pen and lightly go along the edge of the eye, brushing upward gently to create the eyelashes. You'll do this for just about every female character. The eyelashes again are a signature of the cartoon character. You hardly ever need to worry about lashes in any other character unless you want them to look effeminate or innocent or something like that. The eyelashes are exclusively female character traits. Then we'll move on to the eyebrows."
