The Jumping Rubber Band Illusion Revealed

" Hi! This is Dave Foydel with expertvillage.com. In this next clip you will learn the jumping rubber band. Hello and this is the rubber band section of the teaching here. Rubber bands are great because, who doesn’t have rubber bands, pretty common item and you can find them around anywhere. So we are going to take a rubber band and put it on my peace sign fingers, my pointer and my middle finger, close my fist around it and it will jump over here to my pinky and my ring finger. You want to see that again and jump right back. Make it a bit tougher here, we are going to put a yellow rubber band over here and white band over on this side, and we will close my fists around them and they will jump again, so they have changed completely. We will make it even a bit tougher here; we are going to lock the tops of my fingers and like this, so it is completely locked. You can see fronts and backs there. Those rubber bands cannot get off my hand, so what we are going to do is again just close my fingers up and jump and they jump back, so the white is here and the yellow is there. I’ll show you that one more time here and they have jumped again. So this is the jumping rubber band and I will show you how this works now. You have one rubber band and all the magic happens in the palm of your hand, so let you see that part here, you pull this down, like this and you put rubber band so it goes over all of your fingers like this. So from this side just one rubber band there but here it is all your fingers, so when I open the rubber band just shoots over here; moves from this side to this side, so you can do it back and forth just as long as you put it over all of your fingertips when you do it. Now with two rubber bands works exactly the same way, but what you need to do is you grab both the bands and put your fingers through all of them and when you open it switches sides. So we have yellow over here, white over here and when you do it, jumps back and forth. Lastly, the top part doesn’t change a thing. When you put this rubber band over your tops here, here we go, the rubber bands can still move freely from side to side. This makes it look more impossible, so when I do this and put all my fingers through, it still makes me jump back and forth. Let’s see that one last time and that is the jumping rubber band. "
