"Chris Knab still for Expert Village talking to you about some issues to help you learn the business side of music and help your career grow. I get e-mail and if you want to e-mail at this address, that's fine. It's easy to remember; chris@fourfrontmusic.com. Well I get a lot of e-mail and one of the most common questions that is asked all the time is how fast can I make money with my songs. I know that I've got really good songs and they just got to get to the right person and I am really in a hurry because I am getting older or questions similar to that. Can make money fast with my songs? In truth, the answer is no you cannot. There is a gentleman in the music business who is a publicist and I met him one time at a conference and he had a really good thing to say about this issue. That building success and fast success, forget about it. If you have put your own record out and you set your goal someday to be signed to another record company, a bigger record. Well when that happens you are going to be dealing with a company that is a very professional company and they have been around perhaps for a while and they know how to market records and this guy said a very strange thing. He said that label is going to put every obstacle to your success in front of you. The label puts a challenge in front of you or you know makes it difficult for you when you are signed to that label. You have to find a way to jump over he says; that hurdle, dig a hole and crawl underneath it, find a way to squeeze around the side of that problem or be like a tank, barge right through that problem. Do the best you can, at the pace you can. There's not rush to success. People that do that are guaranteed to fail and I don't want you to fail. "
