"Well, I've done the flat wash. And we've started with the introduction to working with water and water color. I'm going to add some water by putting the brush down just a little bit in the water. Maybe less than an 1/8th of an inch. The thing is is the more you put your brush in the water the more water it's going to pick up. So sometimes you just want to break the surface tension. And just stick it down there just barely in the water. So right next to this I'm going to create the very light wash of violet. So if I want more violet I will go back to the palette and paint the darker violet. And if I want lighter violet I just keep adding water to it and removing the paint. See? A lot lighter violet. So there's all these different densities of paint available because the white shows right through the paint and the less paint and more water you put on there then you have a lighter wash."
