"In watercolor, working with water is a very important thing because water has to do with how dense and how not dense your colors are. And since in transparent watercolor you don't use the color white, the white of the paper is the white that you work with. So if you're trying to do a pink, you will use red with water. If you're trying to do red, you'll use red with just a small amount of water. So there's different amounts of water needed for different colors. So to give you and idea how that's going to work is we've got a color here, purple, and I put it on there. This is just a flat wash. I'm not trying to do anything special with the color. Just make it flat without any texture to it."
