Consumer digital cameras may have high megapixels but still produce lots of noise with a worse engine than digital SLRs and prosumer cameras. Learn all about digital camera filters in this free photography video.

Prosumer cameras and the higher end regular consumer cameras generally have engines, that is, processing engines in them, that have lower noise than your typical smaller lower resolution consumer cameras. And, this is important, you know, you may think, "well, I've got an enough pixels resolution," but it may produce more noise than you want, especially in a larger picture. So, that's something to consider. Other things that you may want to look at for accessories on your camera, are filters. And a lot of people like the idea of putting a UV filter or just a plain glass filter, on the front of their lens so that there's no possibility of that lens being scratched. And that's good insurance. Other people will tell you that they don't want to have anything extra in the optics line to affect the sharpness and the clarity of their pictures. Another thing that's important is the polarizing filter. And, there are two kinds of polarizing filters. There's a linear and a circular. And the circular is required for any digital SLR, but if it doesn't have a mirror in it to split the beam of light for the focusing, then it doesn't require a circular. And generally, linear ones are less money and they have less within them to break up the beam of light so you'll get a little better clarity, although the differences are so small that it's not really that effective. So either one will do.
