This particular camera has the ability to shoot raw exposures, format, and then it will shoot JPEG, and it will also shoot a combination where it will create a raw image and it will create a JPEG image at the same time. Another function that you want to consider on cameras is the speed of turning it on, and getting it ready for a shot, and the time between shots. Generally on the prosumer level cameras it's faster and the digital SLR's it's even faster than that because there may be a photo you want to take that's a candid photo of people, and to catch them in the right pose is going to be very important. So speed is important when you're looking to not get posed people pictures, but un-posed people pictures.
