"Hi my name is Cody Kimmel. I am the lead singer of the band Eliot Fitzgerald and I'm here with Expert Village to teach you how to write an alternative pop song. Now, while writing a pop song for the alternative genre, it's important to know what tools we need to write this song. First off. The first and probably most important tool we need is some kind of notebook and pen. As a song writer, I rarely go anywhere without some type of notebook and pen. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, it doesn't have to be anything special. It can be a notepad, it can be just a book full of college ruled notebook paper. It can be something a little bit nicer. This was a gift from my parents. But it can really be anything, but it's important to have it with you at anytime because you never know when inspiration is going to strike. So the first tools you need is some type of writing book and a pen or a pencil, if you prefer. I always use a pen for some reason. The next thing you need is some type of instrument. Now, I use a guitar typically to write my songs. But you don't need a guitar. You can use a keyboard. You can use the base, you can use other instruments, it's harder to do. Typically songs are usually going to be written on the piano or some type of keyboard or the guitar. And I usually whenever I travel, I'll usually try to bring an instrument with me. Because like I said, you never know when inspiration is going to strike. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, you can get just nay guitar or any keyboard or anything like that. But you have to have an instrument with you for the sake of songwriting."
