" Hi! My name is Connie Hale and thanks for joining me here at expertvillage.com. Let's move on to attitude. Attitude is simply bending the leg with the arabesque. So I am going to turn backwards a little bit here. If we could see arabesque, attitude simply bends in. You want to make sure knee stays up. Then face other way, attitude front. We have arabesque into attitude. I am going to lean on the wall a second for balance. You can see how my knee stays flat. All of this is if you are resting it on a table. So we go from arabesque to attitude. Thanks for learning arabesque and attitude. Today we are learning a neoclassical ballet or classic ballet as it was learned. The style that I teach and learn is a Russian style. There are many different styles but we use a Russian. Russian is best to be used for beginners and young children. It is a simpler technique to use. It is also the type that can be seen in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. Ballet if you are seriously interested in taking ballet or working out just to keep your body in shape; adult or children, we will take any age here at cynergy dance. on 7/2/2009 this was shocking...you do not need to do an attitude from arabesque... in fact a better way to teach it would be from retire... and if she were doing this correctly, she would not need that mirror for balance, as her weight placement would be correctly aligned... as dance teacher has said... do more research, as these videos are basic to the bone, and even then i would not use them for the basics...

on 12/30/2008 I am a dance teacher in Seattle, WA and I just stumbled upon these videos. While I don't want to be too critical, I feel the need to point out the fact that this teacher is not an expert. I worry about her turn-out; it's not from the hip. Her pointe is rolled in, she's not stretching out of her hips, and her shoulders need to come down. She is presenting the basics more-or-less correctly, but her form needs desperate attention. Don't base all of your knowledge on these videos. Do some more research!
