"We've looked at the acoustic guitar. Now let us take a look at the electric guitar. There are very many similarities with these two. They both are composed of the body, the neck and the head. On the electric guitar you will also find the fret board. The fret board will generally extend higher on the electric. We have the same tuning pegs, the same strings and the same tuning. The biggest difference is in the way that sound is amplified. The vibrations of the strings on an acoustic guitar go through the sound hole that we saw and produce the sound. On the electric we use the pickups. So, with an electric, you won't get much of a sound unless it's plugged into an amplifier. So, we need a cable and we need an amplifier. We use these knobs on here (some for tone, these for volume). So, these vibrations are turned into sound through the amplifier. On the acoustic guitar you really only get one type of sound from your vibrating strings, but with an amplifier and an electric guitar you can change that sound, from clean to distortion. Always be sure, if you're playing electric guitar to turn off the amplifier before unplugging the guitar."
