"Okay, so we just learned the step pattern, C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C, the whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step. Remember big cats each fish. That's a way of telling that B to C and E to F are the two half steps that we have to deal with. Let's look at this on the E string. Now, we're going to be leaving our open position. We'll start there, with the open E to F, eat fish. It's a half step, F to G, two frets. G to A, another whole step, two frets. Now we're at the fifth fret. Five, six, seven, from A to B is two frets. B to C, big cats, half step. Now we're with the eighth fret. C to D is a whole step, D to E. Now if you'll notice the twelfth fret here of your E string is another E, it's an octave. We had shown the octave down here. It's actually the same note, just in a different position. So now, E, D, C, B, A, G, F, E, anywhere in between these we'll find our sharps and flats."
