"Okay so we just learned E on the D string, our second finger. Now with our third finger playing the third fret, we get the note F on the D string. You probably recall from earlier playing an F, on the E string here. This is an F, one octave higher. So we said open E, to this E is an octave, F to here is an octave. You want to be aware of this when you are looking at these on the clef. See if we look, take a look at the D string or our bass clef. Notice the D is that middle line. E is this space as "all cows eat." Now this E right here is an octave higher than this one. E, we have F and that's an octave higher. You can think of them as been higher on the staff by an octave too. So we have in tablature open D, second fret of the D string and the third fret to represent D, E and F. Between D and E of course, we have the note D sharp or E flat knowing that one step above D is D sharp and one step below E is E flat and it's the same note, the first fret. So get used to these notes on the D string, D, E, F, D, E and D and their octaves."
