"Okay, so we recall that the third string from the top is known as D, open D. So if we use our second finger, we play the second fret of that string, we get the note E. Now you might recall from before, that we also had an open E. These are the same note but the difference between them is called an octave. We'll get into that a little more, in further sections. Importantly though, playing D and E, try alternating a first and second finger over here. Also, we are allowed now with our right hand if we wish, if we're only playing up in this section, to perch our thumb instead of on the pickup, on the E string, low E string itself. Even if we were going to end up playing down, we wouldn't have to move back to the pickup until we played the low E string again. So if this stretch is proven difficult you can perch your thumb on the low E string, when you're playing on the D string."
