"CASEY CORMIER: A creative way to use the open G tuning is finger picking. Finger picking becomes so much easier when we start using the open G tuning, especially if we want to use G, it's something finger picking in the key G. If not, we can always chop on a capo, right? And that's basically, would represent our first finger here. Okay? Right here. With our right hand, we're going to assign ourselves to strings, we're going to assign our thumb to the A and D; our first finger to G, second finger to B, third finger to here. Now we have certain shapes that we can use basically from between the, what is now the G string, then drop to A string, and the B string. For example, just open and those two played are representing a major 3rd, which creates major sound, like a major chord."
