"CASEY CORMIER: A creative way to use the open G tuning is finger picking. Finger picking becomes so much easier when we start using the open G tuning, especially if we want to use G, it's something finger picking in the key G. If not, we can always chop on a capo, right? With our right hand, we're going to assign ourselves to strings, we're going to assign our thumb to the A and D; our first finger to G, second finger to B, third finger to here. Now we have certain shapes that we can use basically from between the, what is now the G string, then drop to A string, and the B string. For example, just open and those two played are representing a major 3rd, which creates major sound, like a major chord."
