What Is Proper Singing Posture?

"Hi! My name is Cass Naumann and on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this segment we are going to be talking about your posture. Proper alignment is very important when you are singing. You want to keep the knees aligned above the ankles and the shoulders above the hips. Everything nice tight, lean and long. With the head you want to keep the chin to the chest, a little more than room to place your fist. If you have trouble with your posture, if you find that you are sticking your neck out a little bit too much you can stand against a wall and practice sin with your head and your shoulders against the wall as you want and as you are seeing. So you want the shoulders back nice and open lifting nice and tall so there is plenty of room for the diaphragm to push down and out, expand as you inhale comes out and as you exhale it caves in. Your eyes are always level with your audience but in general when you practice just straight your head straightforward keeping the chin lifted and shoulders back constantly being aware that the shoulders are above the hips and knees over the ankle. As well when you are standing or sitting you want everything shoulder width the part, knees shoulder width the part. You can just kind of keep that aligned, shoulders, knees, everything lifted nice and tall, see if the sound comes straight forward and centered right out."
