"I am Dr. Charles Grimes and I am speaking on behalf of Expert Village about how to deal with the day of your theatrical audition. Here we are going to talk about your professionalism. You've worked as an artist, you've worked as an actor, you have experimented, you had fun. Now is the time of the day of the audition, how should you present yourself, how do you want to be seen? You want to realize that this is a business situation, a business opportunity and it is going to be a business decision by the Director and the casting agent that you are working with. You are being hired for a job, it is that simple. Be professional, be courteous, just as you would at a job interview. If people demand difference, you need to be polite to them and make sure that you are. Be responsible, be clean and polite in your appearance. The unfortunate truth about life is that you never get a second chance to make a first impression. So, be prompt, courteous, attentive, pleasant, cheerful, no matter how things go, be cheerful and patient. As one matter of etiquette, the Director might not want to be spoken to. You can generally speak to the stage manager, who is running things or to the person who is in the front office immediately as you come in for the audition. The important thing is to be secure in what you have to offer and that will make sure that you are not going to be anxious or rude or needy or impolite. So, it is very important that you are going to be hired for a job because that is what the audition is, be professional, show your professionalism throughout the entire process."
