"Good day. I'm Dr. Charles Grimes, and I'm speaking today on behalf of Expert Village about finding a theatrical monologue for use in auditions. Here's a summary of what we learned so far about finding a monologue and beginning rehearsing with it. First, know who you are as a person. Know how you're seen by other people. Second, know what kind of parts you do well, and find a monologue that fits in with that. Third, spend lots of time looking at plays and don't stop until you have found three or four really good monologues that are going to work for you. Find monologues that have not been done too often. Don't look at books that say, Monologues They Haven't Heard Yet, because in a year, they will have heard all of those. So do something new. Ask your friends, do the research in the library. Lastly, know what it is you're getting into. Know about the play you're auditioning for. Find something out about the play, the playwright. Find something about the group that you're auditioning for and realize that you're going into an opportunity where you can shine artistically and where you're also in an obligation to show yourself as a reasonable, responsible person who is there, quite simply, to be hired for a job. If you keep these things in mind as you're beginning your rehearsal process, you will give yourself a sure footing and be on the way to be giving a secure and confident audition."
