How to Clean & Maintain Trumpet Valves

"Valve care. It’s real important to keep your valves well oiled and maintained. Again you could also use some warm soapy water, not hot; you don’t want to take the finish off. This is an older trumpet and some of the finish is gone, but a little warm soapy water, dip them on in. you want to use a cleaning rod which you can attach any cloth to and what you’ll be able to do is wrap this up and you might want to swab the inside of the valve out, getting any of the dirt out of there. Take that off and then you want to, after you’ve cleaned the inside of the valve, you’ll want to wipe off the valve itself and apply a little bit of oil and keep everything well lubricated. A little bit of oil on the sides there and right on in the valve. Click it into place, blow a little air into it and everything will be nice and clean. So that’s valve number one and you’ll want to go through and you’ll want to clean each valve individually with the same method. Taking the valve out, cleaning the inside of the valve, click casing and wiping the outside of the valve off and reapplying some oil. "
