"Before we get started in actual dancing, the footwork, and the steps, first I want to talk a little about the history and the music. Bachata is a dance that originated in the Dominican Republic, but more in the rule areas like in the countryside. In the smaller remote areas. The music subjects are often sad. They're often romantic or you left me. They're often telling dramatic stories of love. Therefore, the dance also reflects that. The dance is often very close, very sensual. You also have the closed position in bachata. I'm shadow dancing as if I had a partner. You have the really close dancing. They dance a very close position. Then they also dance the open position, which is hand in hand. I will demonstrate that and you will see that in some later clips. First, I want to go through some of the footwork steps and get you through the basic first. Stay tuned."
