"We're learning the basics of merengue. The step I'm going to show you now is just showing you. You've already learned the basic step and how to turn and move in space. Now, we're going to learn how to move actually directly left or directly right. Here's my basic. Step, step, step, step. If I want to travel left, I'm going to step out with my left foot, bring my right foot in, out with the left, in with the right, out, in. Notice I'm continuing to bend and straighten the knees and I'm continuing to put my hips and sit into it. Equally, if I want to go to the right, it's the same thing. When I'm ready, I'm going to step out on my right. In with the left, out on the right, in with the left. Notice my rhythm did not change at all. Watch. Now I'm going to come back to the left. Left, right, out with left, in with the right, and bring it back to neutral. Let me break that down. I'm actually stepping out. When I step out, notice I'm still bending the foot I'm stepping on creating the sit in the right hip. Step, out, together, step, together, step, together. That's to the left. When I'm stepping to the right, as I step, I'm bending on that stepping foot, straightening the left. Out, together, out, together, out, together, out, together. Do is with me once and I'm going to keep the rhythm. Step, step. Here's my merengue step. Traveling left, I got out, together, out, together, out, together, out, together, in place again. Now we're going to bring it to the right. Step out right, together, right, together, right, together. I think you've got it. That's the merengue traveling side step."
