on 9/14/2008 As an artist I don't think many galleries are even interseted in looking for artists. THe key is safe and cheap or investment ( over-rich people who often do not think for themselves.) There is, in short, a need to see the picture from the labor side. Also with a 10-20% real inflation rate (not the BS from to Bush fascist thugs) in the USA another problem is added. Art galleries will fail often, yet safe will help them fail faster. There are a few galleries interseted in art and willing to take their own vision out to the public. If the botton line here is god-the-dolar, art will will greatly vanish from the USA. It is necessary to take political action too. To spread the wealth so the market devesifies. good luck

Video Transcript

"Hi, this is Christina Varga from the Varga Gallery in Woodstock, New York and today on the behalf of Expert Village we’re going to show you how to open and run your own art gallery. I find my clients by sending out emails, by having people add their selves to my mailing list, by word of mouth, by letting people know that I’m having shows, by putting out calls to artists which is sometimes free to place in the papers and I just, you know, you build a clientèle after awhile. Both a purchasing clientèle and an artist clientèle of people that want to show with you. Somebody sells a piece, and they say, hey, you should show your work there, they’re selling artwork and then there’s fifteen other artists come to see me because I’m selling artwork. Your artists will find you if you create a place, if you create a stable place, it’s not like flipping all the time all over the place, where you have a spot that they know to come to. They’ll come to you, they want to show their art and sell it. "
