"Hi I'm Christopher Bullard. We're still talking about the basic five piece drum kit. The basic five piece drum set consists of your snare drum, your bass drum, and you’re three toms, also your rod symbol, your crashers, and your high hat. Now let me show you the different types of heads that come with a five piece kit. Or the different types of drum heads that you can buy. This one is made by Remon, it's a pin stripe, it's clear, and as you can see you can see right through it. Another different type of drum head that we have is the coated head. The coated head which you can see that I have on my drum kit. It's coated and your pretty much can't see through it. But if you get another drum head, you can see right through it, you see the difference. Clear, coated, clear, coated. So these are the two different types of drum heads that you can expect to find on any basic five piece drum kit. As with any drum set the wood is what’s most important. There are three different types of wood you can use for your drum set. One is maple, another is birch and another is mahogany. In this particular kit I have maple. Which comes standard in most kits. If you want to upgrade and do other things and spend more money you can upgrade to either birch or a mahogany. Now I'm going to break down the snare drum for you. Your snare drum is one of the most important pieces of the drum kit other than the bass drum. Your snare drum, as I have here, this is mine, and it is the piccolo snare drum. You have the shell, some shells come in wood, and this particular shell is made out of metal. You have your rims and then you have your drumheads, the drumheads, this side that you hit with the stick is called your batter side and the side on the back is your resonant head which projects the sound through. The snare drum gets its name from this right here, these are wires that are stranded across the drumhead and give the snare its sound. These wires can also be made out of nylon, this one I have right here is made out of wire. There are two to three different types of sound you can get from a snare drum. If I turn the snares off, it has this particular sound. This is what the snare drum sounds like with the snares off. If I turn the snares on, this is what it sounds like with the snares on. And that is your snare drum."
