In this clip were going to talk about preparedness for African Dance class. In an African Dance class, you would wear comfortable, stretchy dance top; anything that you can move or breath in and either some dance pants or biker shorts. The thing that's unique to dance class is that the women would wear a lappa. A lappa is a wrap around skirt that you start here putting the left panel in first and then wrapping around from the right hand so that, the right side comes to the front and it's tied. This is a lappa which is generally what is traditionally worn in West Africa. You can top that off with a gala or a tie, or long piece of material that just tie and notice bare feet, bare feet. African dance is grounded so that you can feel the Earth and you should be able to make contact with it. In class you will be asked to do all sorts of stretching; you would be doing floor work where you will be bending over and really preparing your body well. So wear something comfortable and something that makes you feel good.
