on 11/19/2008 I agree that walking the room is a great way to check levels. Your first and most imediate tool are monitors. One for you and one for the singer.

"We're back with Expert Village! Another tip having to do with the levels of the music, don't assume that all singers sing at the same volume. They don't! Again it's important that you walk around the room and listen to the mix and then come back to the stage and adjust it. Some need the volume of the microphone higher, some need the volume of the music higher. There are all sorts of adjustments that need to be made for a really good song."
