Many of the people who get on stage and sing karaoke think that they are a lucky break away from pop stardom, that if an agent would have happened to stop by during their high school production of Grease, they would be the one selling millions of records instead of Britney Spears or Jessica Simpson. While this could very well be true, things didn't turn out that way. American Idol has proven that while we do have many unheralded talents all over the country, we have even more hacks who are unfortunately unaware of how awful they sound. But karaoke is not a talent search, it's about having fun, even if you're a lousy singer and don't know it. So respect everyone's performance and everyone will enjoy themselves. Then you can play Simon Cowell with your date on the ride home. Unless of course they are one of those unfortunate folks who have no idea about their lack of talent...
Learn the etiquette of hosting a karaoke show in this free series of karaoke machine manners from our professional entertainer and sing-along expert. Known as “Queen of Karaoke” in Southern California, Carla Negri knows how to get the party started and keep rolling right along. Learn how to keep your guests happy with the most equitable way to sign up singers, and ensure that they will be singing the song that is right for them. Carla shares her insight on what scenarios to avoid, lest you bring down the party: don't play background music between songs, encourage the audience not to clap until the song ends and don't force someone to sing a song that they don't want, either because the song is in a key they can't handle or because they just plain don't like the song. You are the host and therefor the guage of the party, so keep things hopping by singing upbeat songs and dancing with the music. And don't drink too much alcohol or you may just lose track of how much fun you are having. And then your guests may lose track as well...
"Hi, I'm Carla, queen of Karaoke. I'm going to explain to you how to run a great Karaoke show. The first important tip we start with the sign up sheet, most people use a piece of paper. Piece of paper is much too rigid and hard to work with. It's much better if you use a card where you list your name and a selection of songs, or even a single card with one song and your name. It's much more flexible than putting your name on a piece of paper that way you can work in new singers as they arrive."

on 8/29/2009 WARNING: May cause drowsiness. Do not operate heavy machinery while watching this video. I was able to watch this drone for about 90 seconds before turning the video off. I've also been to her show, and lemme tell you...it's like the Bataan Death March. It's slow, painful, and seems to last forever.
I've been singing karaoke in the greater Los Angeles area for over 20 years, and one thing I've noticed is that people who call themself "the queen", or "the king", of anything, ALWAYS SUCK. There are many capable hosts around the Los Angeles area, but this is not one of them, so I would hesitate before taking seriously any advice you find in this video. That is, if you're able to stay awake long enough to watch it.
