"OK, so we just talked about using the Mixolydian mode to solo over the one seven in a twelve bar blues progression. So, that's simple enough. But now say we move to a four seven. Well, we could move all the way up to the neck to the D because if we're playing four seven here. But how about instead of moving everything up here just playing in the same area but in a different mode. So, if we're in the key of D here, if we use the Dorian mode, starting on A, the A Dorian. Notice how that properly outlines our four seven chord. So use the Dorian mode in this area when we get to the four chord to solo. So watch the difference. We've got our one chord right? That's what we were using. Now we go to the four chord. OK? Now all of the sudden we're in a minor mode. But not natural minor, Dorian. And then you'd end up going back to the one, right? So remember, with four seven, if you want to stay in that same general vicinity that you were playing your Mixolydian in when you go to four switch to the Dorian mode. "
