How to Play Minor 7th Guitar Chords

"Okay, so we've done the regular, the dominant seventh chords already, and those were comparable with our major chords. Now we also have minor seventh chords, chords which are both minor and seventh chords. These are prominent usually, if you use the turn-around progression, one, six, two, five, seven, as two-sevens. Minor two-sevens, usually leading to the five-seven, before that leads back to the one. So let's take a look at A major first and see how we can turn this from a major chord to a minor seven. So a few steps. So remember, A major, use these fingers. Playing A, E, A, C sharp and high E. When we made the seventh chord, we rejected the fourth finger, moved our third finger down to the second fret, and had an open G in there. This is what made it a seventh chord, a dominant seventh. Now let's look at our A minor chord. Remember, third finger is back where it started. Now we're playing a C natural on the first fret of the B. Well, if we pick up our third finger from here, we have our minor seventh chord. Minor seventh chords are very prominent in jazz music. You can try applying them to your progressions, so, see if we did one, six, two, five, starting on G. G major, E minor would be the minor sixth, now instead of doing a regular A minor, do an A minor seventh, keep your first finger where it is. Make a D seven and then back to G. Now minor sevenths might not be completely convenient in places such as a D minor, or E minor, where's there's a lot of open strings. It sounds very blurred. But try creating them in the places you know and if you have problems, then we'll cover them later on when we play bar chords."
