"Okay, so now we've learned the E major scale using our step pattern. We have to do the same thing for F major 'cause we're confronted with more open notes. So let's look at this. F to G, whole step. G to A, whole step. A to B, half step. B to C, whole step. C to D, whole step. D to E, whole step, and then E to F, half step. Whole, whole, half, whole, whole, whole, half. Now to G, A, we have a B flat. We use our third finger, and B flat to C is a whole step so you don't play the open B there. C, open E, F. These patterns you just kind of have to memorize, but using the step pattern you'll remind yourself of what is wrong, and you'll also use your ear to think of what sounds right and what sounds wrong."
