These portraits have actually presented quiet a challenge to me and that is both good and bad. The first challenge was that prior to doing these portraits I could never have painted a black person close enough to try to deal with the skin tones not that they are that much more difficult than painting a Caucasian is different. Everything is a little different. The other challenge was the musical instrument especially when you are getting into horns that had a lot of reflective quality to them under lights. I learned how to use a lot of white and yellows to try to get the brass and bronze tones in those instruments. I think in some respect that is some of the biggest challenge. Then working on the back ground it is complementary to the clothing color that you collect and the instrument itself. I can't think that any 2 have been alike that everyone has its own challenges.
