"Now, like I said, you can start off by playing along with records at home and try to, you know, learn as much as you can because, once you step out, it'll be a challenge, I'm sure. One of my favorite artists is a girl named Jan Arden, she's out of Calgary, Alberta, and I got a chance to see her perform recently at Borders Books. It was not quite a venue to have a full drum set, so her percussionist or her drummer, rather, played a cahone, which is generally a little square boxed instrument. He used that for the lower tones and then he used the top of the instrument for the snare sounds. So, let's go ahead and play the song by Jan Arden, and I'll go ahead and play along to it and give you an idea what it might be like to play along with an artist or a record. So, like I said, find the beat. And don't be afraid to change it up. And once you feel more confident, go ahead and start adding little tiny flares to it also. So, we'll go ahead and take a break and you realize that there's a lot of different types of fills you can put in there but, like I said, just play your heart out and have fun."
