Down locks is a very exciting movement to have on stage. They're also known as Sohair Zaki hips, a famous Egyptian dancer. Let's begin by shifting our weight to one leg slightly. Make sure the knee is soft on that leg. Pull your belly button in. Lift your chest. Now, with the other leg we're going to kind of keep it straight and flex your foot. This is a nice way to start. So, we're going to then pull the hip up directly toward your ribcage and then you're going to let it drop. So, imagine your hip is connected directly to your heel and it's going to drop right onto the ground. So, imagine just placing your hip right on the ground. So, pull it up. Let it drop. Pull up. Let it drop. This is a vertical motion, so you want to think of it as a piston. Two pistons going directly up and down. Pull up. Drop down. Try it on the other side. You're going to pull up, keep that leg straight and the foot flexed and drop it down. Make sure that you keep your body lifted. This is a very dramatic and accented movement. So, you want to make sure that everything else is holding still so that this really shows up nicely and distinctly in your dance. Practice it in the mirror and make sure that everything is right where it needs to be.
