"Greeting arms are used in a lot of different dance forms, not just in belly dance. And it's a great way to present yourself to your audience. So we're going to start by keeping our feet facing straight ahead, knees slightly bent, belly button pulled in, chest lifted, shoulders back and down. You want to stay nice and relaxed in your upper body and not let your arms get very tense. And then we're going to bring our arm around, palm up, and sweeping across the body. You can let the upper body move a little bit with it. And your gaze can also travel, depending on where your audience is. You can do both arms at the same time, presenting out. Good. Now this is not something you'd want to do while your hips are really busy. So if you're moving around and shaking and doing all this stuff, you don't want your arms to be so busy that you're blocking what you're moving. So you want to make it very clear, when you're doing an isolation, to keep the arms still, generally. And if you're doing an arm movement, to let that present to your audience. Like I mentioned before, you can use this as an intro. and just coming into your audience, using one arm and then the other. Or use both arms. Or as an ending, pulling in and then pulling back to center. Practice it in front of a mirror until it looks great, and then you can put it on stage."
