The saidii head and hip movement has its origins in folkloric styling. We're going to begin with our feet slightly apart. Our knees are soft, our bellies pulled in toward our spine, the chest is lifted, and the shoulders are down and relaxed. Let's first take one hand and cup your head slightly, by letting your thumb touch the top of your ear and then your index finger and middle finger lightly touching your head. The last two fingers are going to come slightly off from the head, and the pinky is sticking out. Make sure your elbow is not pointing forward, but pull it back so it's coming right off of your shoulder. Make sure the shoulder is relaxed and down. Now the hip part of it is going to bring this hand over to your other hip. That elbow is going to be pointing slightly back, and the palm is going to be parallel to the floor. So this is the movement here. So make sure that your posture is good, your chest is lifted, and you have a nice elbow pointing away from you, so you keep this space nice and open. And then we're going to switch sides and bring the other one to the other hip and the other one here. Be sure to practice these movements in the mirror to make sure that you know what it feels like, so that when you're on stage, you'll know what your body is doing.
