How to Work the Crowd: Magic Tricks

"AYE JAYE: You know, I was a talker on a sideshow. A talker is a guy that's in front of a 10 in 1, 10 acts for 1 dollar. Now, here is what I had to do. This was a bally, that's what I was standing on and if this was red one. A red one is town where they are really ready to spend money and that was great. I had to form a tip. What was a tip? A tip was all the people that were walking by, I had to stop them and gather crowd. That crowd was called a tip, okay? What was my job? To bring someone out or do something that would want them to go inside and inside only and see what was in there. Now, there were two things that two great - three great talkers taught me. One was [PH] Bobby Reynolds and the other one was [PH] Ward Hall and [PH] Chris Krice. These guys were the best, but they use two strange methods to stop the crowd before they would go in and do a magic trick or something and one of them was fire. They both believed that fire was one of the biggest getters in the world. "Hello, oh its the devil". They would use fire or they'd say "Okay, what's this going to cost? You know here is what is interesting about this. I have both of these items, but what's great about it is I'll walk into some place and say " How much is that going to be" and I'll make no attention to it and I'll just open and showed that it's empty with my driver's licence, if they want to look "Sir, your wallet was on fire" and I'll go "How long have you felt this way? You really should get out more and talk to people, I don't know what's your talking about that is in your imagination." Now by the way, once you will do that you've got their attention, they're like you wise guy. Yeah, it was fire and I didn't see it. It's a magic trick. But no longer are you that mark that they don't want to see. Now, they want to see, they like you. They want to deal with you, and I've already done this trick at Pet boys and said "Listen I got money to burn and I want to get tires" "Hey Bobby come here take a look at this" and the next thing you know I'm doing this for everybody and the next words out of his mouth is " Don't get the tires this week, get them next week, they go on sale." Why? We bonded and fire is one of the great things."
