"BEN ANDERSON: Hi. I'm Ben Anderson with Expert Village, and I'm here today to talk to you about playing with a beat for using keyboard. It's much different if playing a keyboard not for the purpose of playing a pad sound and filling out the sound but to help emphasize the rhythm. The keyboard and bass are two instruments that oftentimes will do this to help, especially if it's with a driving beat; you might want to help emphasize that beat a little more and it's all dependent upon what type of beat it is. If it's more of a driving beat say, something that's really faster, something like that, you might want to play something that's a little more rhythmic and that really, really stays with that beat. So, that's one different way or it could be a slower beat. It could be something that's a lot more slower, something say maybe jazzier that's got more of a like a swing beat to it. It's really important to always follow the drum line if you really wants emphasize that beat. And it's also important to take into consideration what drums the drummer will be hitting and on what beats they're hitting those drums. You might, say for example, want to emphasize when the drummer is hitting the snare drum rather than say, hitting the kick drum or you might want to emphasize when the drummer is hitting the high hat as compared to say when the drummer is hitting a tom, so there are a lot of different things to take into consideration when trying to help play along with the beat and sort of emphasize the beat of the song."
