On behalf of Expert Village I'm Benajamin Ford Asriel. I'm with Dance Lab NYC here at Stepping Out Studios and today we'll be talking about post-modern dance. Great. So, let's just begin by getting into a position we call "all fours", which you know is in yoga and is in a lot of techniques. You want to make sure that your shoulder blade, the scapula; this large bone is over each palm. So you're not allowing your spine to sag, neither are you curving. You're not holding your neck. But we're really trying to press evenly through both sides of our body. Similarly you want your pelvis to fall evenly on either knee. So your legs are being supported by the femurs, or rather your pelvis is being supported by your femurs, and your shoulders are being supported by strong arms, and this allows your spine to be mobile and free. In this position I'm just going to talk a little bit about the idea of contraction, or curling, the spine, and extension and arching the spine. This is often called "cat counts", like an angry cat curling your pubic bone and your pelvis forward toward your head, and your head back toward your pelvis. And similarly we're going to reach our spine and head up towards the ceiling, keeping the spine long the whole time.
