I am here to tell you about how to play the pedal steel guitar. Now in order to play one of these, you need one of these. This is a volume pedal. Mine are kind of beat up. There are a lot of different varieties and brand names of volumes of pedals. Some use a white beam with a photo sensor. This just uses a regular old potentiometer, just a volume control operated off a string. Rotate down, it increases volume and so on. So what I am going to do is wire this in between the guitar and amplifier. Plug those into the jack and guitar and into the instrument input on the pedal. Another wire goes to the output. This sets down right there so that my right foot can actuate that and this goes right into the input on the amplifier. Turn the volume up just a little bit and I have volume and you can hear it increase with the volume pedal. The other little ritual that I do when I set up to play my steel guitar is I have to wear finger picks. I carry mine in a little film canister. I've had this for probably 35 years. I use a thumb pick and 2 finger picks on my first and second fingers. The same type of pick that you might use for playing banjo or playing guitar, finger pick style. So a thumb pick and 2 finger picks and I get out my steel bar. This is why they call it a steel guitar because it is played with a steel bar.
