on 8/26/2009 This is an excellent video. I am taking professional drum lessons once a week. These exercises helped me to improve my speed as well as breaking hand patterns that I had developed from playing only two or three rhythms at first.

Video Transcript

"Hi, this is Alex Spurkel of Naked Rhythm and Universal Drumming, on behalf of Expert Village. In this clip, we're going to do the third practice drill, and this one's based on triplets. Triplets are units of three--one, two, three, one, two, three, one, two, three. We have two different ways that we're going to approach them. The first is going to be doubling up with the right hand, meaning that we play a Ka on the one, and two, three are Teks. Done slowly, Ka, Tek, Tek, Ka, Tek, Tek, Ka, Tek, Tek, Ka, Tek, Tek, Ka, Tek, Tek, Ka, Tek, Tek. And a little bit faster. Second variation is the exact inverse of that, where we play Tek on the one, and Ka on the two and three. This time we're doubling up on the Ka, which makes it a little bit more difficult because it's a harder strike for most people. Done slowly, Tek, Ka, Ka, Tek, Ka, Ka, Tek, Ka, Ka, Tek, Ka, Ka, Tek, Ka, Ka, Tek, Ka, Ka. And a little bit faster."
