Size & Time Developing Large Prints

So one other factor in deciding or when you're making your prints, is if you're printing a 5x7 as compared to an 8x10 or 11x14 or even a 16x20 if you decide to do so, your enlarger is going to go up because you want the coverage on your easel. So this is one of the math-science deals here. The higher the enlarger is up from where your paper is, the more time you're going to need to expose that. So if you made an 8x10 image at, let's say, 30 seconds, at F8, when you take that enlarger head up higher and you want to make an 11x14, your time is probably going to double and sometimes might even triple. So, really important, every time you make a different size print, you do have to retest it every time. It will never stay at the same time. So that's another reason why sometimes I like to make 5x7's all day, 8x10's all day. It kind of saves me some time in adjusting the enlarger.
