"Now this is an example of a burn and it's a very difficult one to do but it's one when you really start looking at the information in your image and the details that I think is really important. Now in this shot, it's the Texas Capitol and there are these flags here. Now I'm shooting flags, silhouetted, a very bright sky. And so I want to see the detail and the stripes on that flag. You know when I first started doing this, I'd say "That's impossible." The best way to do a burn is you can use your hands to cover over the enlarger or a really great way is a piece of thick cardboard, like this. The hole cut out, you can see I traced where the paper was, and over that little part is where I'm going to burn. Now I'm not going to tell you this is easy because this is not easy at all and you might go through a considerable amount of paper before you kind of finesse your way to figuring out how to do it. But again, it's back to the, you know can make your prints look anyway you want to when you're doing your own darkroom work. And you know, it's not that hard but it definitely takes a little bit of time and again, back to the discipline and patience."
