Video: Loading a 35mm Negative Carrier

Keep the emulsion side of the negative on the emulsion side of the carrier for good prints. Learn to load a 35mm negative carrier to make a photographic print in a darkroom in this free photography video.

So I've pick the image out off of my contact sheet that I want work on printing. It's negative number 18 and I look at it and I make sure the negative is nice and clean. And with this type of negative carrier, I am going to open up the negative carrier and I'm going to look at my image and I'm going to flip it. This is really important. I just want to be able to read Kodak and I just turn it upside down. Again, that emulsion side is facing the emulsion of my paper. I know that when I was learning how to do this I heard "emulsion to emulsion" over and over again and I still didn't get it. But now I get it. So again, non-emulsion side, emulsion side. And what sort of helped me was that the non-emulsion side is a little bit shinier and then the emulsion side sort of has this like dull shiny was the best way someone described it to me and that make sense. And this is the side you don't ever want to touch. You really want to be careful of. This side, you don't really want to touch it either but if there is dust on it, wearing my gloves, I can clean it off. This particular negative carrier is a filed out negative carrier meaning that I get a black line around my print.
