Now that you have got all the components of your home studio set up, it is time to start product, then get going on your music. First off, be sure that none of your sounds are clicking. Look and see on the meters on your software it should tell you if the sound is clipping. Basically it should go into some sort of gradation between green and red with yellow and orange being about where you want your sound level to be. If the sound is clipping, it will cause a digital distortion. This becomes a problem in your mixes because you aren't really able to get a sound that is consistent throughout the mix. You want to record your sound so that you have a good full amount of volume and amplitude but still you are not clipping that sound. This will give you a pure possible sound. Next add your compressors after you add all the other affects. You also want to compress all the tracks together as well as compressed individual tracks depending on the needs of your recording One thing to consider when using compression and again is to keep the mixes from clipping. Your compressor is something that is going to contain the amplitude of your sounds whereas it will also keep them even and balanced.
