"ATHENA REICH: In this segment, I'm going to talk about the importance of working with other musicians. Don't expect that you can travel to Chicago and put up a great poster and have a really great website and expect that people are going to show up. Unfortunately, there's just so much talent and so much competition right now that you really need to be a little bit smarter than that. It doesn't matter how amazing you are. You gotta put in more effort than that. A wonderful way around that is to get in contact with local musicians whose music is like your own. Email them. Say, "Hey, I booked a show. Would you like to play this--would you like to share the stage with me? You can open for me or I can open for you. "Is this a good time for you to book a show?" "Will you be able to bring your friends?" I mean, you don't just want someone to book it and not bring their friends. Say, "I'm looking for a local act who can have a draw because I'm from out of town, I booked it myself, I'm going to be contacting the press but I really need help with draw." So, it's really important to work a network with other musicians. I can't emphasize that enough. They can really help you increase your fan base."
