"ATHENA REICH: In this clip, I'm going to talk about the importance of getting a coach before throwing yourself out there into the audition world. You definitely need a coach whether you're doing musical theater or acting with monologues. You need to be taking classes or working with a private coach. Auditioning is brutal. It can be terrifying and the competition can be fierce. It's really hard to prepare a song without an outside eye. You need another opinion. You need someone who's going to challenge you to be your best. I've been studying theater since I was nine years old and I will always have a coach. I still go. They always challenge me to be better, to be fresher. Sometimes, I'm auditioning for the same casting directors over and over and if they don't see that I'm growing, they're not going to think that I'm a real committed serious artist. Always get a coach. That coach can lift you up when you're feeling down from rejection. That coach can remind you of the joy of why you're doing this in the first place."
