In this clip I'm going to talk about doing a picking pattern. Let's go back to our easy A chord and we remember that we don't really like to try and play this string. So we're going to start with this and I'm going to play just these four strings. This is your most basic strumming pattern. There we go! So I'm going: 5, 3 , 2, 1, 2, 3, 5, 4. That's the pattern! If I switch to an E chord, I'm plainly allowed to play this chord, but I'm going to keep these three strings to keep it consistent but instead of playing this starting with the fifth string, I'm starting with the sixth. Now if I go to the D, I'm only allowed to play these four strings. I'm not allowed to play these if you remember, so this is going to be my base note. I'm switching chords!
